Group Fitness Classes 

The YMCA of Oakville offers many indoor in-person group fitness classes in our large gym.

Our 45 minute classes will include Cyclefit, Yoga, Zumba®, Strong Nation™ (formerly Strong by Zumba®) and more. Please visit our schedules page to see the various classes on offer.

Mobility

Our stretching and mobility class allows participants to increase flexibility and range of motion using a variety of tools such as rubber bands to help stabilize joints and increase mobility of shoulders, knees and hips. This helps with creating more movement and range of motion. This class is designed to alleviate pain, post-exercise muscle stiffness, and overall joint tightness. Please note that participants must be able to complete exercises while seated on the floor, or lying on mats, and must have good balance and stability to successfully complete exercises.

BoxFit

BoxFit

Have you ever wanted to learn how to box before? Check out our new BoxFit class! This 45min class offers 10 rounds using traditional boxing techniques, including shadow boxing, working the heavy bag and total body conditioning. You’ll learn the basics for punches, form and stance. This challenging high-energy class features high-intensity music and tons of FUN. All levels welcome.

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a full body workout with targeted exercises that help you gain control, strength, power and flexibility. You will see and feel your “core” get stronger each week and gain a renewed sensation of support in your legs and arms. Balance is challenged in a range of positions and endurance is emphasized. Result: improved performance in sport, dance and just about every other daily activity. All levels welcome.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga enables deep relaxation as you holding poses for longer periods of time with the help of props to completely support you. The main focus of Restorative Yoga is that by relaxing in poses, with the aid of props, without strain or pain, we can achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation.

PhysioAID

PhysioAID

In the YMCA of Oakville PhysioAID Program, our certified Trainers will help you achieve optimal joint health. If you are currently working with a healthcare practitioner (orthopedic surgeon, physiotherapist) we will align our program approach. If you are not currently seeing a practitioner, no problem! We can develop a safe approach to improve any new or old nagging pain and injuries. We aim to ensure everyone has the support they need to overcome injury and support joint health using both “rehabilitation” and “prehabilitation” approaches one on one or in a small group format.

AquaFit

AquaFit is a great way to get fitness benefits and improve your circulation without stressing your joints. By pushing against the resistance of water, you can adapt each session to your own level of fitness. It’s a great way to add variety to your fitness program. AquaFit is a cardio-based water workout that can be done in shallow or deep water. Some muscle conditioning may be included in the class with a variety of equipment like water weights, flotation belts, and pool noodles. Suitable for all levels.

Aqua Zumba®

Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! Benefits. There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba® class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.

Barre

Barre is a form of physical exercise, distinguished from other group fitness activities by its use of the ballet barre and its incorporation of movements derived from ballet. These classical dance movements and positions are combined with those drawn from yoga and pilates.

Classes typically focus on small, pulsing movements with emphasis on form, alignment, and core engagement.

Boot camp

Boot camp is your full body workout – cardio and strength conditioning all wrapped in one! Class variations include drills, strength and conditioning movements, work with a partner, and a variety of equipment. Boot camp is great for all fitness levels.

Circuitfit

With a combination of aerobic interval and weight training, Circuitfit is designed to build cardiovascular strength and burn calories. It focuses on balance, speed, endurance and strength.

Challenge yourself in order to improve your cardiovascular system, muscular strength, stamina, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, endurance and accuracy true challenging workouts.

Core

This class is designed to strengthen your core muscles, including those located in your abdomen, back and pelvis. Core will help you develop the much-needed strength in your core muscles key in preventing back pain, stress, weakness and fatigue.

  • Participants will need a mat and all exercises are bodyweight. No weights needed.

Cyclefit

Cyclefit is designed to build cardiovascular strength and burn calories. Each participant can control his or her own intensity.

The instructor uses music and instructional cycling techniques to guide participants through all types of terrain: flat roads, hills, rough trails, interval drills and more.

Family Zumba®

Family Zumba®

Family Zumba® is an all ages inclusive dance class that features kid friendly lyrics and routines based on original Zumba choreography. This class is open to everyone, with or without children. The classroom is a space that welcomes all that want to be active and dance to their favourite music.

Fit For Life

Fit For Life is ideal for those with limited mobility or joint problems.

This program is specifically created to help improve everyday activities, such as lifting weighted objects, reaching for something up on a shelf, walking up stairs, and getting out of a chair through functional fitness.

Participants will perform exercises designed to improve strength, endurance, range of motion, coordination and balance.

Gentlefit

With a combination of low impact cardiovascular aerobics, Gentlefit targets large muscle groups in order to build endurance and muscle strength.  It is designed to improve cardiovascular flow, range of motion, balance and strength to allow participants to complete daily movements with confidence. This class is ideal for those new to exercise, with joint problems or limited mobility.

  • Participants will need weights and a mat.

Strength Training

This workout features a variety of exercises, including squats, lunges, curls and presses, targeting upper body, lower body and core. Using a combination of free weights, bands and body weight exercises to develop general full body strength.

  • Participants will need dumb bells, bands and a mat.

Stretch and Mobility

Our stretching and mobility class allows participants to increase flexibility and range of motion using a variety of tools such as foam rollers, massage balls and more. This class is designed to alleviate pain, post-exercise muscle stiffness, and overall joint tightness. Please note that participants must be able to complete exercises while seated on the floor, or lying on mats, and must have good balance and stability to successfully complete exercises.

STRONG Nation®

Stop counting the reps. Start training to the beat.

STRONG Nation® combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more.

TRX

Using the TRX suspension trainer, participants use their body weight to challenge and develop strength, balance and core stability in this 45-minute group workout.

Wellness HIIT

A class where we will alternate high intensity burst of activity with periods of strength training and rest and recovery. Different equipment will be used, i.e. rowing machine, dumbbells, kettlebells and also body weight.

Time will fly and you will have a very efficient workout that will keep you burning calories and energized for the rest of the day.

Yoga

Based on traditional yoga postures and focuses on mind-body awareness, strength, flexibility, breathing and relaxation techniques.  Designed to provide increased flexibility, strength and overall wellness.

  • Participants will need a yoga mat – yoga blocks and straps are recommended for modifications.

Zumba

Zumba® is a cardiovascular workout that incorporates the excitement and energy of dance. Zumba® fuses Latin rhythms and moves to create a dynamic, dance-based class. Instructors will give physical cues to movements, and members will learn routines and music over time and be able to anticipate upcoming moves.
