Drop-in Sports & Recreation 

Come play your favourite sports, no experience or skill level is required, and everyone is welcome to join! This is a great way to stay active, try something new and meet new people. Please check the program schedule for a full list of all offerings at Peter Gilgan Family YMCA.

Badminton

Badminton

Drop in for a friendly game of badminton! All levels of players are welcome to join. Our gymnasium can accommodate 3 side by side courts. Racquets and shuttles are provided or you are welcome to bring your own. Fair and respectful play, and even court rotation are expected throughout the session, Single or double matches are possible. Please wear appropriate court shoes and attire when playing.

Basketball

Basketball

Come alone or with some friends to shoot hoops, work on your game or join a pick-up game. This is a self-supervised session, so everyone is asked to play safely and follow YMCA etiquette. All levels of players are welcome to join. Please wear appropriate footwear and attire while playing. YMCA Basketballs are available to use, or you are welcome to bring your own.

Pickleball

Pickleball

Join us for some friendly games of Pickleball. For those who have not played, Pickleball is a paddle sport which combines elements of badminton and tennis. The game is played with a hard paddle and a Wiffle ball which will be provided. All levels of player are welcome to join. Please wear appropriate footwear and gym attire when playing.

Drop-in Soccer is back! Join us for some fun and friendly games of soccer. If you are just learning to play or are a more advanced player, everyone is welcome. To ensure an enjoyable time for all please play safe and always follow YMCA etiquette. Please wear appropriate footwear and gym attire when playing.

Volleyball

Volleyball

Come out and practise your serves, setting and spikes by joining in on a pick-up game of volleyball. Come alone or with a group of friends, all skill levels are welcome. Teams will be created as players arrive each session. Regular team rotation and quick games will ensure everyone gets fair playing time. YMCA Volleyballs will be provided or you are welcome to bring you own. Please ensure you are wearing appropriate footwear and gym attire when playing.

Drop in for a friendly game of Table Tennis! All level of players are welcome to join. Please see front desk to sign out paddles and balls (children under 14 will have to get a parent or guardian to sign them out). The table will be located in the front foyer near the swimming pool. We ask everyone to limit there playing time to 20 minutes if there are others waiting.

Sports Mix emphasizes developing physical literacy through sports skills and drills in a safe and fun environment. Participants will experience learning a new skill while expanding their knowledge of different gymnasium sports.

New! We are inviting everyone to join us for some pick-up games of dodgeball. This is a great way to work on your agility, hand-eye coordination and throwing ability. This will be a supervised drop-in session to ensure safe and fair play. Dodgeballs will be provided. Please wear proper gym attire when playing.

Floor Hockey

Bring your friends and join us for a friendly scrimmage each week and put your floor hockey skills to the test. Sticks, ball and nets will be provided.

Spike Ball

Spike Ball

Spike Ball is an emerging sport in North America that is designed to allow individuals to compete against each other by throwing a ball against a net on the ground. Reaction speeds of players will be put to the test as you try to throw off your opponents from retrieving the ball after it bounces. Players do not know where the ball will end up which makes this a fun and exciting game for all.
