We offer classes for individuals of all fitness abilities. Work at your own pace and have fun while a certified YMCA instructor guides you and your group to better health.

Want to take on a new challenge? This 17-week training schedule is ideal for first-time half-marathoners and experienced runners. We recommend three or four runs per week. Two runs per week will be with the group.

An affordable way to enjoy all the benefits of personal training! Join us and work towards your fitness goals in a small and encouraging group format (maximum four participants).
This 7-week program is led by a certified YMCA Personal Trainer and includes two 60-minute workouts per week, functional assessments, goal setting, weekly take-homes and a personalized program at the end of the session.
Classes will be led by a Concept 2 certified indoor rowing coach and a YMCA Personal Trainer.

Nordic Pole Walking will pump up your cardio by increasing oxygen consumption, reduce stress to your knees and lower joints and improve posture while strengthening your upper body to create resistance to build better bone density. Bring your poles and join us for a weekly walk through Oakville.

Cardio Fitness

With a combinations of aerobic interval and weight training, Circuit Fit is focused on balance, speed, endurance and strength. You will be encouraged to challenge yourself in order to improve your cardiovascular system, muscular strength, stamina, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, endurance and accuracy true challenging workouts.
16+ yrs
Designed to build cardiovascular strength and burn calories, this indoor cycling class combines fast music with speed and climbing drills. RPMs, gear numbers, watts and distance are explained so you can understand how well you’re doing. Class size is limited. Sign up 30 minutes prior to the class at the Membership Services desk.

HIIT is a 45-minute training class in which low to moderate intensity intervals are alternated with high intensity intervals. HIIT can be applied to running or to exercises such as squatting. HIIT is considered to be much more effective than normal cardio because the intensity is higher and you are able to increase both your aerobic and anaerobic endurance, combined with strength training exercises designed to tone your full body, while burning more fat than ever before.

Tabata training is a form of interval training performing 20 second intervals of all out intensity, followed by 10 seconds of rest. the short duration of this workout coupled with core type exercises on a mat provide an excellent anaerobic and muscle strengthening workout.

Join Zumba where we combine fitness-bases movements with fun, dance routines set to high-energy Latin and international beats. This class is designed to provide a large calorie burn (up to 400-600 calories) through aerobic activity presented with interval training. It’s good for the body and soul!
Strength Fitness

New to the YMCA of Oakville in January 2018, Barre is a dynamic, energizing class that combines the ballet barre with small resistance equipment to provide a full body stretch with a dance-like approach.

Bars and Plates is low in complexity, but high in results! It will sculpt your muscles, increase metabolism, and increase strength using specially designed bars and weight plates. There’s no experience required to join the class, just your desire to build a stronger you.

This class is designed to strengthen your core muscles, including those located in your abdomen, back and pelvis. Core will help you develop the much-needed strength in your core muscles key in preventing back pain, stress, weakness and fatigue.

Cross Training is a program that builds cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy through challenging workouts. Each time, the workout will test a different part of your functional strength or conditioning, with the goal of building a body that’s capable of practically anything and everything.

A fusion of muscle and cardio exercises to totally challenge you. Combining TRX, Kettlebells and weights with intervals of cardio make this class unique and fun for those members looking for variety in their fitness routine.

This class will be an hour long which can accommodate up to 16 people. It is a circuit type class with 8 people on TRX while the other 8 people are doing a body weight or small equipment interval (e.g. Kettlebell, bands) and then everyone switches.

This is a 30-minute, high-intensity TRX class. It can only accommodate 8 people at a time. Participants need to have experience with the TRX unit so the workout can be for the full 30 minutes and flow from one exercise to another.
Yoga Fitness

A great way to end your day!
Mindful yoga is a combination of relaxing the mind through meditation and yoga postures to deepen your inner connection. Meditation helps to lower stress and promotes restful sleep and improve brain function. Class will be held outside weather permitting.

Power Yoga is a class designed to move you more quickly through Hatha based postures. The focus is more strength based fitness rather than flexibility traditionally taught in regular Yoga classes.

Older Adult Fitness

Aqua Fit is a great way to get fitness benefits and improve your circulation without stressing your joints. By pushing against the resistance of water, you can adapt each session to your own level of fitness. It’s a great way to add variety to your fitness program. Aqua Fit is a cardio-based water workout that can be done in shallow or deep water. Some muscle conditioning may be included in the class with a variety of equipment like water weights, flotation belts, and pool noodles. Suitable for all levels.

If you have a limiting physical condition that requires a gentler routine, or you’re just beginning an exercise routine, this is the perfect class for you. With a combination of low impact cardiovascular aerobics, Gentle Fit targets large muscle groups in order to build endurance and muscle strength.

Learn the proper techniques to stretch! Develop flexibility, balance and coordination through a variety of stretches and movements. Light weight fitness equipment may also be incorporated to develop muscle strength and improved stretching technique.

Our gold series classes provide a gentler version more low impact of the regular Total Body Conditioning class format. This class provides a balance to your cardio workout and good strength training for all muscle groups. A variety of equipment is used – free weights, resistance bands, medicine balls and more.

With all the Zumba flair, introducing this low impact cardio class, based on the most popular Latin rhythms. The same fun and excitement of our regular Zumba class, but with less impact! Come and shake those hips!
Special Notes
- For safety reasons, members cannot join in once a class has been in session for 5 minutes or more.
- Group fitness classes are subject to a minimum participant number. A minimum of 5 members is required for aerobic classes, and 3 members for Cycle Fit classes. Attendance will be monitored for 3 weeks and then classes will be cancelled if minimum is not met.
