Counsellor in Training (CIT) (Level 3)

The Counsellor in Training (CIT) program develops essential communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills, gaining practical experience by assisting with camp or youth programs, understanding child and youth development, learning to foster positive relationships through a strength-based lens, and building self-awareness regarding boundaries and professional scope. These programs aim to provide participants with both a foundation in counseling principles, program planning skills for youth transitioning to counsellor roles or future employment. Participants will have the opportunity to put skills into practice during March Break camps and earn volunteer hours towards high school credits.

Program Outcomes

Throughout participation in CIT youth will:

  1. Gain a positive sense of self and improve their self-confidence.
  2. Acquire a basic understanding of fundamental leadership components.
  3. Understand developmental age appropriate planning skills.
  4. CITs may receive certifications that enhance their resumes and qualifications, such as *First Aid and CPR and *High Five (*fees not included in registration cost).
  5. Employment readiness skills; resume building, interview preparation.
