Living with Parkinson’s

Parkinsons Disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. Individuals have difficulty with walking, balance and coordination with symptoms progressing gradually.Life with Parkinson’s disease can present special challenges. if you’re struggling to manage the daily challenges of Parkinson’s, our qualified staff can help. We offer special expertise for dealing with Parkinson’s, as well as a unique water and land therapeutic program for those just learning how to manage the disease. An assessment is required for participation.

Virtual Parkinson’s Program

The YMCA of Oakville has been offering a specialized, in person, program for those who have been diagnosed with Parkinsons’ disease for over 14 years. Since the YMCA has been temporality closes to help stop the spread of COVID-19, the program continues to be offered twice a week through a virtual class where members can participate in an instructor-led, stretching, strengthening and Rock Steady Boxing program in the comfort of their home.

Dates and times

This class runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 am to 9 pm. The class is 45 minutes folloed by 15 minutes of social time.

Registration

This program is included with a YMCA of Oakville membership. An assessment is required prior to participation in the Parkinson program.
