Dear YMCA child care families,

Further to our message yesterday, we wanted to provide you with details of the potential outcomes for YMCA of Oakville Child Care in the event of any upcoming Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) job action.

We have been in discussions with our school board partners, Halton Catholic District School Board and Halton District School Board and understand that any potential job action by CUPE would result in different outcomes for each board.

Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB)
In the event of a CUPE strike on Monday, October 7, 2019, all HCDSB schools will be closed to students. As a result, all before and after school programs will be cancelled.

All full day child care centres (TODDLER & PRESCHOOL ONLY) located in HCDSB schools will remain open if a CUPE strike were to proceed. However, please note that picket lines may be present at some board properties and could delay access to/from the site. Please expect potential delays in dropping off and picking up children.

The YMCA will not be offering alternate programing for school age children on Monday October 7.  We will continue to reassess the situation.

Halton District School Board (HDSB)
We have just been informed that the HDSB intends to be open on Monday, October 7 and as such we are able to continue offering Before and After School programs and child care programs (TODDLER & PRESCHOOL)

No fees will be charged to families during this closure.

We understand that negotiations with CUPE are continuing throughout the weekend and it is likely that we will not know whether a strike will proceed until Sunday, October 6, 2019. While these decisions are beyond the control of the YMCA, we are committed to providing updates as soon as we receive additional information to minimize the impact of this situation on your family.

Please check our website for the latest information on Before and After School and child care closures.

Thank you in advance for your patience and support as we work through this process.
