Oakville Resettlement Fund Announcement
On Wednesday, June 8, we were proud to host the Oakville Community Foundation grant announcement for the Oakville Resettlement Fund here at our YMCA. We were also grateful to be one of the recipients chosen to receive funding and play an important role in supporting refugee families in our community.
The Oakville Resettlement Fund was established to respond to the current Syrian refugee crisis and assist agencies who are directly supporting new refugee families. There are currently 38 refugee families living in Oakville and more are expected to arrive.
As a chosen recipient, the YMCA of Oakville is excited to work in collaboration with Halton Catholic Children’s Education Foundation and Halton Catholic District School Board to help students and their families who are refugees benefit from being healthy in spirit, in mind and in body. Refugee families will receive gym wear and a six-month YMCA membership. The membership is funded 50% by the resettlement fund and 50% from the YMCA.
We have an estimated 15 families participating in this project and we are expecting more families in the future.
