Halton Sport Leadership Program

HSLP is intended to inspire young people to make the personal changes needed to thrive, to develop confidence and give back to their communities through meaningful employment. Participants currently facing personal challenges will turn the curve, and be given the opportunity to change their circumstances.

While “sport” is in the name itself, Halton Sport Leadership is so much more than a program designed to teach youth about sports. It’s skill development, employability and self-confidence.

Throughout the program, participants will obtain certifications required to seek part-time employment in recreation, coaching, community sport officiating and/or life-guarding and swim instruction. Mentors will guide participants through team building activities, training opportunities and personal development experiences; allowing participants to develop new skills and confidence.

The best part of the program is the relationships participants build with their Community Mentors and with each other.

From now until December 15th, the YMCA of Oakville is a part of the #GIVEOakville program through the Oakville Community Foundation. GIVEOakville is an online crowd-funding platform that, with the help of generous supports in our community, will be able to help us achieve our fundraising goals for Halton Sport Leadership and continue to provide opportunities to youth. You can learn more about the program here.

The Halton Sport Leadership Program would not be possible to offer youth in Oakville without our many financial supporters.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Foundation, Naylor Building Partnerships, Halton Region, and our many individual donors that believe investing in our youth benefits the entire community.
