What does the air quality and extreme heat mean for summer day camps?2024-02-22T14:12:03-05:00

Our Summer Day Camp programs take place outdoors, and most of our camps encourage physical activity unless otherwise stated.

This means that not all of our locations have access to indoor spaces or air conditioning. This is especially important to note for our Bronte, and Valens locations, where we use outdoor shelters during inclement weather. These locations have no access to indoor facilities or air conditioning.

On days when we experience extreme heat and/or poor air quality, staff will ensure participants are in shaded areas, have access to water and participate in low intensity games and activities. If your child has pre-existing medical conditions, we encourage you to follow the advice of Public Health and/or your family physician regarding the decision to keep your child at home on these days.

Click here to view the Air Quality Index for Ontario for more information about air quality in the Halton-Hamilton area.

Horseback Riding FAQ

Horseback riding requires some focus and attention, Kings Meadow coaches do their best to make this a fun experience. This camp is all day and campers are expected to follow rules and instructions for their own safety.

What will my camper be doing at Kings Meadow?2023-07-05T10:37:49-04:00

Campers will be divided into groups and each day will be spent increasingly learning riding skills and horsemanship. The week will focus on getting to know the horse, learning to be comfortable around the horse by painting the horse and then bathing the horse. Campers will also be introduced to tacking up the horse, leading the horse and grooming. The goal is for the camper to be able to lead, steer, walk and trot and feel comfortable handling the horse on their own.

What is horsemanship?2023-07-05T10:56:26-04:00

Horsemanship will include reading the horse’s behaviour to avoid accidents. What it is like to run a farm, variety of feeds, how to conduct a health check on a horse and many more horse related activities.

What are the safety protocols?2023-07-05T10:57:15-04:00

On the first day of camp, each rider will be assigned a helmet to use for the week. Footwear will be checked (read ‘what do I need to wear’), safety demonstration will take place and safety rules will be discussed with the campers. A tour of the facility (barns, camp horses, washrooms, etc.) will help the campers get to know the site.
