Welcome back to the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA!

Although Phase 3 Reopening for Ontario came into effect for the region of Halton on Friday, July 24, we made the decision to delay reopening our facilities for members to ensure a safe and responsible reopening.

We are now excited to share that we are now OPEN!

Stage Two Reactivation
Reactivating members 14+, NEW Member Survey, NEW program schedule

On September 8, we opened the doors to the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA at 410 Rebecca Street for our phase one reopening! It has been wonderful to see our members and staff back at the Y!

We are excited to announce that next week we will be moving to Stage Two of our reactivation plan. New additions to our programs in stage two include:

  • Welcoming members 14 years of age and older
  • Opening from 11 am to 12 pm for all current members
  • Adding one more Cycle Fit class on Wednesdays at 1:30 pm
  • Increasing the number of participants in our aquafit classes to 10 people per class
  • The addition of two more aquafit classes on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm
  • Adding one more Cycle Fit class on Wednesdays at 1:30 pm
  • Adding more lane swims from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Member survey:

A few weeks ago, we asked you to take our reopening Member Survey – thank you for your feedback! It helped in our decision making about our current program offerings.

As we consider which programs and services to add next to our program schedule, we are hoping to get your input again as we continue in our plan to increase our offerings.

New Safety Procedures

The safety of our members, staff, and community is our number one priority. We have put the following measures in place to help you feel safe upon your return to the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA:

  • Masks worn by all members and staff (may be removed when one is settled into their workout station)
  • Glass barriers at Membership Desks
  • Wellness check prior to entry
  • Contactless scan-in stations
  • Single one-way directional entry and exit
  • No change rooms open at this time (exception of the family change room for swimmers only)
  • Physical distancing measures to maintain 2 metres between other people
  • Increased sanitization and disinfection
  • Increased hand-sanitizing stations
  • Limited building access and capped fitness class sizes to support physical distancing
  • Book-by-time reservation structure to track and monitor number of guests at all time
  • No Day Passes, Guest Passes or Swim Passes at this time to ensure access for our members
  • Installation of the new state-of-the-art heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system

Masks and Wellness Check

All members are required to wear a mask within the facility, but they may be removed when working out. Members and staff must also complete a wellness check prior to entering the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA. This check may be completed up to two hours prior to arrival.

Doing a health screening is as simple as going online to the Wellness Check page, and quickly answering three (3) questions. Once you have completed the screening, you will:

  • either see a green screen signifying you are clear to enter the facility
  • or a red screen letting you know you will need to wait a bit longer before visiting us (we’re sorry, but its for the safety and benefit of us all)

Once you have received a green screen, you may proceed to show the staff located at the front desk, where they will then take a quick temperature check. Provided your temperature does not suggest a fever, you may scan your membership card and enter the facility.

Please note:

  • These wellness checks must be done within a two-hour window before entering the facility

mywellness App

To help manage and maintain numbers within the building—and to ensure there’s a spot ready just for you—members must book their workout in advance using the mywellness app, or by calling (905)-845-3417.

The wellness floor, gyms and multipurpose rooms are available for booking in 30-minute time blocks; members can book up to two (2) consecutive 30-minute blocks per day. Fitness classes and lane swims appear as 60-minute blocks which includes workout, arrival, and departure times. There is no limit to number of blocks members can book per week.

Follow these steps if you are unfamiliar with the mywellness app:

  1. Download the mywellness app from your preferred app store (Apple | Google Play)
  2. Create an account, and select Oakville as your location and Peter Gilgan Family YMCA as your facility
  3. Select the date you would like to attend to see what classes are available
  4. For more information, click on the photo of the class you are interested in attending
  5. Select ‘Book’ to reserve your spot
  6. For fitness classes and lane swims, select your preferred space, bike, yoga mat, or lane location
  7. You will then receive an email from Peter Gilgan Family YMCA confirming your registration

Please note:

  • Registration opens seven days/one week in advance of the scheduled workout and/or fitness class
  • If you have trouble with the mywellness app, please e-mail mywellness@oakville.ymca.ca or call (905)-845-3417 ext. 4270
  • For any other questions, or for any help with registration, please e-mail: customerservice@oakville.ymca.ca

You can continue to HOLD your membership or to cancel it by e-mailing customerservice@oakville.ymca.ca.

THANK YOU for your continued support and patience. We are in this together!

We’re busy getting ready and doing everything possible to ensure our facilities meet the highest standards of health and safety. We are also modifying our policies and programs to ensure proper physical distancing practices. Our Peter Gilgan YMCA has been undergoing a thorough deep cleaning during our closure; we are modifying spaces, floor plans, access points, traffic flow and more.

We all have a shared responsibility to support the safety of ourselves and those around us as we continue to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Keep an eye out for emails from us, or visit us anytime at ymcaofoakville.org or follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the latest updates. Your health and wellness continues to be a priority for us and we are currently responding to this by offering a constant stream of new live videos.

Please Donate To Support The YMCA

The YMCA of Oakville is a charity dedicated to helping communities connect, belong and thrive. The closure of our physical spaces, programs and services as a result of COVID-19 has come at a significant cost to our YMCA, just as it has for many businesses in our community and placed us in a financial position where we have to be extremely prudent to ensure we can continue to serve our members and communities for years to come.

We can’t wait to open the doors of our YMCA to all valued members, volunteers and families. Until then, Be Well, Be Safe and Stay Healthy!
