We are hiring a full time cook at a YMCA of Oakville child care centre for a 1 year contract! This position is responsible for developing and implementing a six week rotational menu that follows Canada’s Food Guide. This would include preparing lunches and snacks for the children. The successful candidate would ensure that safe food handling practices are observed, and that the dietary needs and allergy restrictions of the children and/or centre are met.

Monday to Friday, rotational shifts – must be available from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm (42.5 hours/week)

  • Ensures compliance with YMCA policies and procedure and the Child Care and Early Years Act

  • Participates in professional development including staff meetings, workshops and training
  • Completes administration tasks as required
  • Ensure the development of menus following the Canada Food Guide.
  • Responsible for monthly budget to accommodate the menu
  • Responsible to change menu items as needed due to allergies, and dietary restrictions
  • Ensuring the safe storage of all food items
  • Responsible for day to day food preparation snacks, lunches
  • Prepares all foods in a timely fashion in order to follow classroom(s) schedule



  • High School Diploma – 18 years or older
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Experience preparing food, including preparing for children with allergies, and an awareness of religious and alternative dietary restrictions
  • Effective conflict resolution and team work skills
  • Strong professional relationship and communication skills
  • Clear criminal reference check which includes vulnerable sector screening
  • Current medical (record of necessary immunizations)
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • First Aid with Infant & Child CPR


  • College Diploma in a related field
  • Previous experience as a cook or childcare worker
