Child Access (0-9 years of age)

  • All children 10 and older can sign in and out without a parent or guardian.
  • All children 9 and under must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian over the age of 16.

Pool Admission Standards

The YMCA of Oakville is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience. Our admission criteria are based on Public Health requirements.

LEISURE POOL ADMISSION STANDARDS
Unsupervised children 6+ years have access to the Leisure Pool.

  • Children under 6 years must be accompanied by an adult 16+ years.

Child to adult supervision ratio:
2:1 within arms’ reach
4:1 with life jackets within arms’ reach

  • Caregivers to participants with special needs must be 16+ years and remain within arms’ reach of the participant while in the water
  • YMCA members must have their membership card.
  • Guests must wear age-appropriate wristbands.

MAIN POOL ADMISSION STANDARDS

  • All children under 10 years of age who are unable to successfully complete a swim test must be accompanied by an adult 16+ years

Swim Test

  • Unsupervised children 6-9 years must successfully complete a swim test of 40 metres to access the Main Pool shallow area
  • Unsupervised children 10+ years must successfully complete a swim test of 50 metres to access the Main Pool deep area

The swim test consists of a continuous swim demonstrating age-appropriate breathing and arm techniques. A swim test pass is at the discretion of the lifeguard on duty.

Shallow area swim test = 40 metres (to the red line & back)
Deep area swim test = 50 metres (two full lengths)

  • Adults 16+ years may be asked to stay in the shallow area depending on their swimming ability
  • YMCA members must have their membership card

Attire / Safety

We are here to help you achieve your goals and enjoy a respectful, safe and fun workout. For your safety and the safety of others, proper attire must be worn while in program areas at all times.

  • Only clean, dry, non-marking, closed-toe running shoes are permitted.
  • Dress appropriately – gym attire; shirts, shorts, running shoes. Shirts must be worn.
  • Food or beverages (except water) are not permitted in the locker rooms or program areas.
  • Protect your belongings – lock them up in the locker room.
  • Do not use the camera function on personal devices. Taking photographs, images or recordings is prohibited in locker rooms or pool areas.

We encourage all members and guests to support each other in making the locker room a welcoming, safe and comfortable environment.
