Nature and Scope

Reporting to the Aquatics Supervisor, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will help in maintaining the safe operation of all Oakville YMCA Aquatic Programs while providing service excellence to all of our members. The Day Time Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will ensure that all Ontario pool regulations and YMCA of Oakville Pool Rules and Admission Standards are enforced and must possess the necessary skills to create an enjoyable and safe swim lesson experience for all participants.

Schedule: Multiple 3.5 hour shifts are available MondayFriday between the hours of 4:00pm and 10:pm, and weekend between 7:00am- 6:00pm


Lifeguard / Swim instructors are responsible for:

The safety and well being of all patrons swimming in the pool
Enforcing all Ontario pool regulations and YMCA of Oakville Pool Rules and Admission Standards.

Swim Instructors are required to:

Teach various levels of swimming from Parent & Tot to Adult lessons.
Develop a lesson plan for a 12 week session focusing on stroke progression
Update swim lesson rosters weekly.
Communicate well with parents during their 6 week mid-session update
Prepare a 12 week progress card for all participants

Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Experience

Essential Criteria

NLS , Standard First Aid and AED
Swim Instructor Certification
Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector screening

Desirable Criteria

LSS advanced instructors
Aqua Fitness certification
