Nature and Scope

The supervisor of program quality and inclusion will provide association support for the implementation of the YMCA “A Place to Connect” curriculum through training and centre support visits. Additionally, the supervisor of program quality and inclusion will assist with the development and facilitation of an annual training plan to support educators in their continuous professional learning portfolio required by the College of ECE and Ministry of Education.  Training will be developed in consultation with the manager of program quality and inclusion and departmental leadership team and will be responsive to the identified needs within the department. The supervisor of program quality and inclusion will provide assistance with inclusion services for educators, families and children with additional needs. This position reports to the manager of program quality and inclusion and will support the department as required.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the development, coordination and implementation of the annual before and after-school training plan (including the annual before and after-school conference)
  • Delivers ongoing training to support the implementation of the YMCA “A Place to Connect” curriculum
  • Conducts benchmarking and annual assessments of YMCA “A Place to Connect”
  • Supports on-site supervisors and directors to create goals and objectives based on assessments
  • Supports each centre (through site visits) in achieving a minimum of 75% on the annual assessment for YMCA “A Place to Connect”
  • Organizes registration for training and ensures appropriate tracking/monitoring of training attendance and participant evaluation of training sessions
  • Prepares quarterly training attendance reports for child care directors
  • Conducts regular site support visits and meetings with centre teams (2 or 3 times/monthly)
  • Works closely with the support facilitators and program teams to develop and implement a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities that are engaging and fun
  • Support in child care programs to role model the implementation of strategies
  • Assists to develop outlines and other relevant documentation to support the inclusion strategy. Ensures documentation and forms are consistent across all YMCA of Oakville sites
  • Reviews inclusion binders, ensuring all forms are in compliance with the Ministry of Education’s Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Assists to coordinate resources and strategies between child care and camp and community to ensure consistent approach
  • Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with the Ministry of Education, Halton Region, Halton District School Boards (separate and public) and Reach Out for Kids (ROCK)
  • Develops positive, supportive relationships with child care directors and front line child care staff
  • Consistently role models behaviour that aligns with our YMCA core values
  • Anticipates, quickly assesses and effectively assists the department in resolving conflict and responding to challenges
  • Developing tactics to deliver on the directives outlined in the association strategic plan and annual plan
  • Analysis of systems and processes
  • Assists in implementing changes to create efficiencies, in consultation with the child care leadership team
  • Sound judgement is required to ensure all decisions are aligned with YMCA mission and values and the Ministry of Education’s Child Care and Early Years Act

Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Experience

  • College Diploma or University Degree in a related field (ie. adult learning, resource consulting)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with children and families
  • Strong knowledge with children and their families who have developmental delays and families with complex needs with a focus on family-centered practices
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant acts, legislations, and frame works, including but not limited to: Child and Family Services Act, Child Care and Early Years Act and How Does Learning Happen?
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Strong collaboration and team skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of child development ages 12 months to 12 years
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Effective time management skills
  • Demonstrated passion, enthusiasm and commitment to the YMCA’s mission, vision and core values
  • Valid Ontario’s driver’s license
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate

Desirable Criteria

  • Early Childhood Education / Ontario Certified Teacher
  • Prior experience working within the non-profit sector
  • Strong understanding of YMCA Playing to Learn and A Place to Connect and other YMCA frameworks (ie. YMCA Healthy Child Development)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft word, Microsoft excel and power point
